The Potter has landed…

…and John’s already a third of the way through. I won’t be able to start reading it until I’ve finished books five and six.
But I’ve been a very bad girl.
Yep, I read the last twenty pages. And I found out tonight that a friend of mine does the same thing! :-)
I started doing this back in the 90s when I got burned a bunch of times on books that ended in a way that made no sense to me. My favorite is a book branded clearly as romance which ends with one or both romantic leads DEAD. Yeah, “They lived happily ever after” — without that pesky “lived” part.
But no spoilers here, folks. There are plenty of ‘em at Wikipedia, if that’s what you’re looking for.
Hee.
I made Kerry drive all the way back to the Ham last night with the light on in the car so I could read.
Then I was back up at 6AM devouring more, and finished it up a few minutes ago.
Worth the read, and a satisfying end for the most part. Kerry asked me if I was going to go back and read the entire series again. Not sure if I will be able to do that so soon after finishing this one, but I may do it someday. ;)
Thank you for not blabbing. I hate spoilers.
BTW, I have been reading your blog through Bloglines but been unable to load the page let alone reply. Mentally add me into your hit count from now on. I’m here even if it doesn’t show.
By the way!
After our discussion last night about the translation of the Iliad and Odyssey that you enjoyed, I followed my own advice and did a Google on “Robert Fagles” and Iliad. I found this interesting review that does a passage by passage comparison between a portion of Fagles’ translation and the corresponding sections in Pope’s translation.

Pope is probably what both John and I had to read in school. You can get an idea about why we found it so agonizing just by reading the excerpts!
I figured you’d read all the way home, Mel! :-) John still isn’t finished, but maybe he’ll wrap things up tonight.
Thanks for that link on the Pope vs. Fagles comparison, by the way. The two translations are night and day, aren’t they? If you decide to reread Homer, feel free to borrow my Fagles version!
Hi, Alice! Are things working on bloglines now? Is there something about my page that’s messing up the feed?
I don’t have the latest book yet, and I’m avoiding all spoilers. I’m glad the ending is satisfactory. (I think that means all my favorite characters live.) We saw the latest movie on Friday, and weren’t impressed. It was okay, but not anything more than that. I wish I’d seen Hair Spray instead. Or Sicko. I want to see both of them.
