My new pets and other random musings

Jul 12th, 2007 by Lynne

Bam called shenanigans on this whole RWA debacle, and I seconded her. I’m done for the night with reading about this stuff. There’s only so much controversy I can take, sometimes. :-)

My 1,000 new pets arrived yesterday. Actually, they’re my mercenary army of caterpillar-eating, tomato-protecting lacewings. They arrived in a small jar from Arbico Organics, and all John and I had to do was spritz some water on the tomato plants’ leaves and then sprinkle the lacewing eggs all over the place.

I almost said, “Fly, my lovelies!” but that was a little too Wicked Witch of the West even for me. :-)

Aww, what a beautiful lacewing. How long until they hatch?

I’m not entirely sure, Alice! I’ve been watching the plants, but so far, I haven’t seen anything.

The bottle warned us not to expect to see anything, Alice. The li’l fellas may already be eating other bugs. I suppose we may see the adults in another week or so, and it’ll be time to apply new eggs before then.

I hope you’ve already ordered the next batch, Lynne?

I love the way the lacewings look too. I think our tomatoes are doing pretty good this year, but I’ll let my husband know about them.

I’m back from National and catching up on my blogs. Just read your last 4 or 5, but didn’t comment. I don’t know what I think about the e-press contrversy. It’s something that doesn’t effect me — now. It certainly might later, and it is effecting my friends.

Oops, that should have been “affecting” my friends.

I love lacewings…when I was younger, I thought they were fairies in disquise!

    Hi, Edie! Welcome home! :-)

I haven’t seen any lacewings yet, but I think they mostly come out at night.

Hi, Ericka! They sound lovely. I’m gonna have to sneak out tonight to see if there are any around. :-)
