Inundated by comment spam!
Apr 13th, 2007 by Lynne
I switched off my anti-spam plug-ins a month or so ago because I was messing around with my WordPress template. Then I got crazy busy, so template development fell by the wayside. Wow. We’re talking HUNDREDS of spam comments a day, to the point that real comments were almost getting lost in the shuffle.
Well, no more of that. I put Peter’s Custom Anti-Spam back in, and I added Bad Behavior and Comment Timeout. This should knock down spam levels considerably. Comment Timeout looks particularly useful, because most of the posts that get spammed are over six months old. You can set comments to auto-close after whatever interval you choose.

Not a spammer!
Just checking in to see how busy you are!
I saw you’d turned off your anti-spammer and I wondered . . .
Comment Timeout sounds good.
Hi, Ericka! Still busy, but starting to catch up! :-) Thanks for stopping by!
It’s like magic, Michelle. I don’t know if just one of those three plug-ins did the trick or if it’s a combination, but ever since I installed them, my spam has dropped to ZERO.
:boggle:
I just have Peter’s Anti-Spam, and I get almost zero. I think I’ve had 1 in the last six months, to an old post, so I’ll get that Comment Timeout one installed. Then I’ll be on zero too :) .
