It rains inside my printer
Nov 25th, 2006 by Lynne
I’ve been doing a LOT of printing lately, and something about all those warm, laser-printed sheets of paper together in a small space causes condensation to form inside my LaserJet. I first noticed it last year while I was getting Lord of Fire ready to submit for the Golden Heart. When I pulled a stack of finished pages out of the slot in the middle of the printer, the top ten were very damp, and some drops of water fell onto my hand from the underside of the compartment. I’ve learned to remove every thirty or so pages from the printer, but even so, it still rains a little anyway if I’m printing a full manuscript.

I love this printer, by the way. It prints twenty pages a minute and is also a fax, scanner, and copier! Who knows — maybe it’s a humidifier, too. :-)

That would seriously concern me, Lynne, LOL. I have an inkjet which is also a copier and a scanner. And I’ve had it for years, its never broken down and I’m very attached to it. Twenty pages a minute it can’t do, though …
Don’t you just love multifunction printers? I used to spend a lot of time and money making copies and sending faxes in copy centers, so this thing has definitely been worth it. I hope your printer has many, many more years of life in it.
Damn that sucks… Alice was also saying she had a problem with the cd she sent in for her Golden Heart entry. She said it broke in half. Are we all doomed or what? I didn’t enter any contests this year since I am just getting back into the writing thing. Maybe next year though. I might try and convert the two entries I did on the Fanlit forever site into novels. Everyone is telling me they want to read more, so I guess that’s a good thing! Btw is it ok if I add you to my blog roll? I just set up my wordpress blog. I started getting spam on eblogger. I really don’t want that!
Hi, Cynthia! Thanks for stopping by. :-)
Yes, feel free to add me to your blog. Hope you enjoy WordPress. It does give you a lot of control over your blog environment, and I love it.
LOL - and a humidifier, too? Well, I guess you’re just lucky. :) I do hope it’ll be ok, though. Printers are indespensible for writers.
Lynne, good luck with your printer/fax/scanner/copier/humidifier. It would scare me, but I’m so technological-challenged, I hate even having to change cartridges in mine.
Lynne, your printer is a beaut, even if it sweats.
Kinda wierd, though, but it does kick-butt in the page
spitting contest. (20 per minute) Wow. And Edie, had to smile
at your comment. Yep, changing cartridges is a big
thing for me too. LOL.
Hi, Kate! Yeah, wouldn’t it be awful if it quit right before I printed the last page of my GH submission? Since I always leave that stuff until the last minute, I’d be in deep trouble, for sure.
Hi, Edie! Cartridge-changing is a lot better than it used to be, at least. Changing this new one is a one-step process, thank goodness.
Hi, LaDonna! :-) This is my favorite printer, ever. It has more than paid for itself, and I’m glad I got it. Maybe by the time it quits and I have to buy another one they’ll have worked out the weather issues.
Aren’t you worried about your wiring?
Alice
Good point, Alice! I worry about that, so I keep some paper towels nearby whenever I have a lot of printing to do.
I’ve never heard anything good about the multifunction devices, so I hope yours holds up!
I have the opposite problem on my end. The last time I needed to actually print something on my humble Canon i850, I discovered that the ink in the cartridges had dried. That was a month ago. I haven’t replaced them. Then again, I’m not writing a book. :)
Hi, James! In general, we’ve had good luck with HP hardware, so let’s hope this printer is as reliable as the other HPs we’ve had.
You must not have printed in a LOOOONG time. :-)
