No more Farrah hair
Those of you who've met me in person know how thick and unruly my hair is. I had it cut just before RWA National this year, but due to the humidity and my reluctance to break out the flat iron, my hair practically needed its own ZIP+4. (I hate flat irons.)
Well, things took a detour into the 70s a week and a half ago when I switched stylists. The salon is a very good one, and I picked the stylist's name off a list of their most senior people. I don't know what went wrong, exactly, but I swear my hair has looked like a brunette Farrah Fawcett after a day on a motorcycle. With or without helmet — take your pick. I tried everything: gels, creams, pomades, hot brushes, even the dreaded flat iron. I could get things almost normal, but within thirty minutes of easing up on the hair abuse, I was back to Farrah-land.
I began to wonder if something in my Southern genes was making my hair act this way. I mean, the South is Mullet Central, right? (Which reminds me — was the mullet guy in Sweet Home Alabama funny as hell or what?)
Anyway, after I spent some time researching other good salons in Atlanta, I finally decided to go back to the same one but ask for a different stylist. I didn't make any fuss about it; I just used their online booking system to schedule an appointment with another of their most experienced staff members.
Cue HUGE sigh of relief. For the last year, it was like I had pissed off the Gods of Good Hair. I don't know if I did something to appease them or if they finally got bored with tormenting me, but something must've happened, because this style is a keeper. Just in time for Dragon*Con, too!

And what exactly is dragon*con?. . .I suppose I could click on the link and find
out for myself.

OMG, someone else has hair like that? With the humidity so bad this summer, I hardly bothered with the curling iron. Just washed my hair and let it frizz.
Glad you got a good cut. :)

The only footage of the Farrah ‘do SHOULD be on convenience store surveillance video. :-)
My hair at the conference was doing that triangle thing that looks like Dilbert’s coworker Alice. There’s a picture of it on a blog somewhere, I think. (Yikes.)
Theresa, Dragon*Con is a fantasy and science fiction conference that takes place over Labor Day Weekend in Atlanta. There are close to 50,000 attendees every year. I mostly go to play board and roleplaying games and to shop in the dealer room. Lots of people go in costume, but I rarely do. It’s just too hot!
Edie, do you ever use a flat iron for frizz? There are some hair products (Aveda makes a couple) that really flatten hair out when used in conjunction with a flat iron. I like to keep some of the curl, though, and when I do a flat iron I lose all of that. Basically, I need a really good cut that tames my curls but doesn’t completely eliminate them.

Hahahaha! This totally cracked me up. And made me envious. Because my hair
doesn’t even need its own street address.

Jacqueline, it’s funny how that works. I’ve always wanted silky hair, either in long ringlets or straight, but my hair is way too coarse. It kinda reminds me of the texture of a horse’s tail sometimes! There’s no way I’ll ever have silky hair, short of wearing a wig.
